At Vital Signs we’re a small Melbourne based company focused on service and design.
We started in a shed (really, a shed!) behind a shop in Brunswick St. Fitzroy, moved into a stable in Bach Lane Fitzroy, outgrew this (and the stiflingly hot summers in the mezzanine office) and moved into Victoria St, Fitzroy where we remained for over 10 years. Late 2008 we moved to better premises at 44 Victoria Street, East Brunswick. It’s only 3kms down the road off Nicholson Street so we have managed to keep our locals as well as a gain a few more.
We have now been operating as Vital Signs Pty Ltd for over 20 years!
Partners, Grant Meuleman and Tyler Anderson both started as traditional signwriters (back in the late seventies) and so combine diverse backgrounds in written and painted billboards, varying forms of larger outdoor signage, ticket and poster writing through to traditional forms of signwriting including gilding and hand lettering.
Although there is now little call for any of these traditional signwriting techniques we still manage to grab a couple of jobs that allow us the pleasure of using these now almost forgotten skills (now known as a ‘rare trade’) Have a look at our most recent gilding job here.
To operate as a signwriter today, it is necessary to embrace the technology of computer based sign making and use it as an extension of the traditional skills.
